II. Description of Organization

Organization, Mission, and Goals:

MISSION
To develop in a comprehensive way the discipline of ecology, through high quality basic research, teaching postgraduate students, and community services related to education, dissemination of knowledge, and impact assessment studies focused on conservation, restoration, and management of the biological diversity of Northwestern Mexico.

GOALS
Carry out basic research and baseline knowledge in the main lines of interest of the Institute, mainly Functional Ecology, and additionally Evolutionary Ecology, and research on Natural Resources. Use the ecological knowledge to generate development and ecological programs policies in management, restoration, and conservation of ecosystems. Have an active participation in education, particularly higher education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in concert with other institutions of UNAM, and other institutions in Mexico and abroad. Have an active participation in knowledge dissemination, environmental education, and environmental services that promote conservation, management and ecosystem restoration.
